  1. We are encouraged to approach God as \u201cFather.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0 That may not sound that significant to us, but it was pretty radical coming off the lips of Jesus to His disciples.\u00a0 Though the concept of God as Father is not absent in the Old Testament or prior to Jesus, the intimacy of \u201cAbba, Father\u201d is a drastic introduction.\u00a0 We approach a good, loving, and merciful Father.\u00a0 Prayer is relational.<\/li>\n
  2. We must honor God as holy when we pray.\u00a0\u00a0 <\/strong>To honor His name as holy is to honor God as holy, because in biblical language the name represents the person.\u00a0 Recognizing the holiness of God is recognizing that He is separate from us, and that He is perfect.\u00a0 The intimacy of calling God \u201cFather\u201d is balanced by the recognition that we approach Him with deep reverence and respect (even fear, in the right sense).<\/li>\n
  3. God desires that we pray for His work to be done on earth.\u00a0 <\/strong>All things in heaven are in submission to God\u2019s sovereign and perfect rule.\u00a0 Take one look around you, and it is pretty clear that this is not how things are where we live.\u00a0 What are God\u2019s views about justice?\u00a0 About love?\u00a0 About people turning to Him and away from their destructive path?\u00a0 About the blessing of well-being for all, including those on the margins of society?\u00a0 How should this guide your prayer?<\/li>\n
  4. We trust God for His provisions.\u00a0 <\/strong>We worry about a lot of things.\u00a0 Most of our anxieties in our society are first-world problems, not where we will get our next meal.\u00a0 Trusting God for His provision of our needs (not necessarily our \u201cwants\u201d) demonstrates that we have faith and trust in God, and that we are satisfied with what He provides.\u00a0 We pray for these things because it demonstrates our reliance on God for His provisions.<\/li>\n
  5. Forgiveness is an important key to life.<\/strong>\u00a0 Most of us know that we are in desperate need to be forgiven by God, not because we are axe murderers, but because of the selfishness, lust, greed, and pride that reside within us.\u00a0 But Jesus doesn\u2019t let us simply receive forgiveness.\u00a0 He demands that we demonstrate it to others.\u00a0 In fact, the test of whether we understand that we have received God\u2019s undeserved forgiveness is that we forgive others in the same way.<\/li>\n
  6.
