In addition, he highlights the consequences of immaturity in each role. I share these ideas with you because, in understanding these roles, we can do two things: empower our group members to fulfill their calling in Christ and maintain unity in the body by not forcing our role on someone else.<br \/>\nThe definitions come from <strong>page 25 of <em>Spiritual Leadership <\/em>by Jeff Iorg<\/strong>, the <strong>core question comes from Breen<\/strong>, and the <strong>immaturity comments come from Breen<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/leadership.brentwoodbaptist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/08\/Fivefold-Ministry-Pentagon.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3863\" src=\"https:\/\/leadership.brentwoodbaptist.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/08\/Fivefold-Ministry-Pentagon.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"276\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><br \/>\n<strong>Evangelist<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Evangelists share the gospel and train others to share the gospel.<\/li>\n<li>Core Question: Are new people entering into the Kingdom of God?<\/li>\n<li>Immature Evangelists:\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce the gospel to simply <em>getting out of Hell<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li>Move on immediately after conversion to get to the next unbeliever rather than walking with the new convert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Apostle<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apostles are pioneers sharing the gospel in new communities or new ways.<\/li>\n<li>Core Question: Are we leading the people of God to their destiny?<\/li>\n<li>Immature Apostles:\n<ul>\n<li>Lack discernment between good ideas that <em>they <\/em>have and the innovative ideas that <em>God <\/em>has given them.<\/li>\n<li>Lack follow-through, e.g., throwing out new ideas but never working them to fruition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Pastor<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pastors care for and coordinate believers ministering together.<\/li>\n<li>Core Question: Are the people of God caring for and showing compassion for people?<\/li>\n<li>Immature Pastors:\n<ul>\n<li>Lack\u00a0the confidence or skill to move people forward out of their struggles into the kingdom life and work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Prophet<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prophets speak truth and call people to live up to God\u2019s standards.<\/li>\n<li>Core Question: Are the people of God hearing his voice and responding appropriately?<\/li>\n<li>Immature Prophets:\n<ul>\n<li>Share what God\u2019s vision is and then they provide the interpretation of the vision themselves rather than giving it to the faith community to interpret.<\/li>\n<li>Have\u00a0a tendency to assume that they are always correct.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Teacher<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Teachers instruct believers and help them apply the Bible to life.<\/li>\n<li>Core Question: Are the people of God immersing themselves in Scripture and incarnating it?<\/li>\n<li>Immature Teachers:\n<ul>\n<li>Allow Scripture to be the end rather than the Triune God, e.g., they make the Bible their idol.<\/li>\n<li>Rely on their own intellectual prowess to impress people rather than the authority of Scripture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"By Paul Wilkinson Mike Breen in Creating a Discipling Culture offers a helpful image of the fivefold ministry.
