Easy instructions and materials.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.futureflyingsaucers.com\/sin-will-touch-others-genesis-4-cain-and-abel-object-lesson\/\">Click here<\/a> for more info<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #339966\"><strong>Bible Story: Genesis 4 \u2013 A Murder Mystery<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nHere is another way to tell the story that will pique the kids\u2019 interest. This is an activity for telling the story of Cain and Abel. You could do this in small groups, or if your class is small you could do it in one group.<\/p>\n<p><em>Explain to the children:<\/em><br \/>\nA terrible tragedy has happened. The world\u2019s first murder has taken place. It is our job to find out who did it and work out a suitable punishment for the murderer.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ask the children the following questions:<\/em><br \/>\n1. What do we know about Adam?<br \/>\n2. What do we know about Eve?<br \/>\n3. Read Genesis 4:1-4a. What do we learn about Cain from this Bible passage? What do we learn about Abel?<br \/>\n4. What words describe what God is like?<br \/>\nHere are the suspects: Adam, Eve, Cain, Abel, God, A stranger<\/p>\n<p><em>Give the children one clue each.<\/em> They read out the clues in chronological order, but don\u2019t show their clue to other children.<br \/>\n1. God was pleased with Abel\u2019s offering.<br \/>\n2. God wasn\u2019t pleased with Cain\u2019s offering.<br \/>\n3. Eve loved Cain and Abel.<br \/>\n4. Adam and Eve had another son to replace the one who was murdered.<br \/>\n5. Cain said to his brother Abel, \u201clet\u2019s go for a walk.\u201d<br \/>\n6. God asked Cain, \u201cwhere\u2019s Abel?\u201d and Cain answered, \u201cI don\u2019t know, am I supposed to look after my brother?\u201d<br \/>\n7. God said to the murderer, \u201cYou will never be able to farm your land again.\u201d<br \/>\n8. The murder happened outside.<\/p>\n<p><em>Children put all the clues together and work out the following:<\/em><br \/>\no Who did it?<br \/>\no Where did he or she do it?<br \/>\no Why did he or she do it?<\/p>\n<p><em>Ask children: <\/em>What do you think the punishment should be?<\/p>\n<p><em>Read Genesis 4:10-16:<\/em><br \/>\no What was God\u2019s punishment?<br \/>\no What does this story tell us about God?<br \/>\no How are we like Cain?<br \/>\no How are we like Abel?<br \/>\no Why do you think this story is in the Bible?<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/transformingkidsministry.wordpress.com\/2013\/06\/16\/lesson-ideas-for-genesis-4-a-murder-mystery\/?postpost=v2\">Click here<\/a> for more info<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #339966\"><strong>Object Lesson: Cain and Abel\u2019s Hearts<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nHalf fill one clear glass with water. Half fill an identical clear glass with white vinegar. Tell the children that these glasses represent Cain and Abel\u2019s hearts. (Point to the glass of water) Abel\u2019s heart was good and he wanted to give his best to God. (Put a drop or two of green food coloring in the vinegar glass and give it a stir.) The green glass represents Cain\u2019s heart. He was jealous of his brother and he didn\u2019t give his best to God. Let\u2019s see what happens to their hearts when they gave gifts to God. Ask one child to put a teaspoon of baking soda in the glass of water (nothing will happen to the water). Abel gave his gift and God was pleased. Abel felt good in his heart because he knew he had given his best. Now let\u2019s see what happened to Cain\u2019s heart. (Have another child put a teaspoon of baking soda in the green vinegar glass). As the water bubbles and boils talk about how jealousy made Cain\u2019s heart upset and angry.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/missionbibleclass.org\/old-testament-stories\/old-testament-part-1\/creation-through-noah\/cain-and-abel\/#Craft%20and%20Activity%20Ideas%20for%20the%20Class\">Click here<\/a> for more info<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;color: #339966\"><strong>Object Lesson: Candy Fairness<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\nUsing M&amp;Ms or Skittles (or anything like it), divide in cups in different amounts. Pass out to kids but don\u2019t let them see they are different. After you have passed out all the cups and the kids start to figure out that they are not the same, ask them about how they feel about everyone getting different amounts, talk about if it is worth getting really mad about. After discussing fairness and how it applied to the story of Cain and Abel see if the kids can work it out to make it fair for everyone to have the same amount.
