Prayer for you, as you journey to Bethlehem.
Praise God, for a spirit of all things Christmas.

Legend of the Candy Cane

August was a candy maker in Cologne, Germany. And one Christmas Eve, many, many years ago, he brought a special gift to the grand cathedral in Cologne. It was the very first candy cane . . . and August had made it himself.

“I gave it the shape of the letter ‘J,’ the first letter of Jesus’ name.” August told the king. “And, as you can see, when I turn it upside down, it becomes a shepherd’s staff. Jesus, you know, is our Good Shepherd.”

“It is made of pure, white peppermint to remind us that Jesus is pure–the Son of God! But it is also striped with red. That reminds us of the blood Jesus shed for you and for me,” August concluded.

“I see!” the king replied, smiling broadly. “It stands for JESUS!”

Prayer for you, as you journey to Bethlehem.
Praise God, the Light.

Do you have a Christmas tree and what color are the lights–white or multi-colored? Maybe you even have a silver aluminum tree with a color wheel disc that changes its color. My mother-in-law had one of those. I loved it!

Do you decorate your tree? My tree has a lot of ornaments with sentimental value. Some of them I bought the first year my husband and I were married; others signify milestones in my kids’ lives; and then there are gift ornaments from children we taught in preschool Sunday School. All are precious.

I have presents under my tree that I give to people I love. It gives me great delight to pick each one out and then have joy when they are opened–even the funny gifts.

In God’s mansion of many rooms, I wonder if He has trees that glow with His light. What if our souls are the ornaments that radiate the light of His Love? Gazing at them would inspire awe and wonder.

Maybe God’s trees have gifts, too, and they are created and handpicked to give to others through us. Gifts that contain Himself–salvation, love, hope, compassion, restoration, healing, courage, wisdom. And, as believers, you know the list is never ending.

So, this Christmas deliver God’s gifts to someone He designed them for with great love and delight. True worship expresses itself in giving. Let’s share what we know about Jesus and go worship the King!

“He (John) was not the light, but he came to testify about the light. The true light that gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.” (John 1:8-9, CSB)

Good morning, Father

Father, children are a gift–an amazing blessing from You. As teachers, mentors, parents, grandparents, aunts, or uncles, we have the power to make a difference in their precious lives through prayer. Thank you.

God of Mercy, You knew we needed a Savior. So Jesus left glorious heaven to be our Rescuer. He didn’t remain a baby; but He grew up to be a man, died on a cross, rose from the dead, and now lives forever so that we can, too. That is my prayer as I journey with my preschoolers to Bethlehem. Help us day by day to worship Jesus for who He is and what He means to us. Bethlehem changed everything. May we look at the baby and behold the King.

“The Word became flesh and dwelt among us. We observed his glory, the glory as the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14, CSB)

Good morning, Father

Children are a gift, Father–an amazing blessing from you. As a teacher, mentor, parent, grandparent, aunt, or uncle, I have the power to make a difference in their precious lives through prayer. Because You see, know, and are there, I am confident You care for them better than me.

Lord, we are in a season of thankfulness. Your many blessings, our bounty, what we hold near and dear to our hearts, we give thanks to You. I want to thank You for providing eternal salvation. It is my fervent prayer that children would come to know Christ as Savior and Lord.  I desire that their hearts from an early age would be drawn to You. Show me my part in teaching them the wonder of walking closely with You. Thank You for sending Jesus for me.

I claim the promises found in Your Word: Romans 10:9-10; John 3:16; John 8:32

Good morning, Father

During 2017 help me to be faithful in my prayer walk. It is most important that we who serve preschoolers remember to pray for the next generation. Teach me how to pray blessings for these children and their families.

My prayer today is that the children I encounter will always know how much they are loved. Father, make them aware that You are loving and kind. Fill them with faith to believe Your words are true. Help them find great confidence in the security of Your love for them.

I claim the promises found in Your Word: John 15:13, 1 John 3:1 and Jeremiah 31:3.

Father, as we enter a time of Thanksgiving, help me to tell my preschoolers what I am thankful for in my life. Remind me of those things as I go about my day. Maybe I should put a thankful jar in my home or classroom and daily write on a piece of paper things or people I am grateful for. What a beautiful thing to read out loud at the dinner table to family or to share with friends or my students or in private when I spend time with You. May I always have a grateful heart and spirit.

Father, I want to be positive with the preschoolers I encounter. Your Word says that Jesus grew in wisdom, stature, and in favor with God and man. Help me as I form the minds of these preschoolers. May my words convey encouragement:

1. I’d love to hear about it.
2. You figured it out–that’s awesome!
3. One step at a time–you’re doing it!
4. I know that was a new thing for you–excellent try!

Father, I want to be positive with the preschoolers I encounter. It is my desire that they think about their actions before they act. Teach them to be positive with their responses
so that I can say:

1. Look what you’ve accomplished!
2. What a great decision you made!
3. Thanks for doing that before I could even ask.
4. I’d love to hear about it.

Father, I want to be positive with the preschoolers I encounter. You know our true worth and value. Help me to instill positive self-esteem to preschoolers by responding:

1. Wow- you really rocked it!
2. You know what? You are a great kid!
3. I appreciate what you did.
4. I’m praying for you.

Father, I want to be positive with the preschoolers I encounter. Help the thoughts that I  verbalize be an encouragement, such as:

1. Great job! Thank you for doing that.
2. Way to go. I’m proud of you!
3. That was so kind of you!
4. Fantastic! Thanks for obeying the first time.
